14:00 – The artist and architect Apolonija Šušteršič will present her project Neighbours and Citizens, which includes a collaborative exercise of planting of apple trees.
Neighbours & Citizens is a public artwork by Apolonija Šušteršič, which consists of twenty-one different apple trees. The work was commissioned by the Gävle Municipality, as well as by the Municipality of Kiruna whereby Šušteršič will plant an apple tree at the Jukkasjärvi Heritage Centre. Also participating on June 28 is apple expert Sylve Rolandsson, who will talk about the way that the long bright days and cool light nights provide the conditions for the unmatched sweetness and aroma of apples grown above the Arctic Circle. The event is part of Kin’s ongoing exhibition “The Observatory: Art and Life in the Critical Zone,” which will continue until September 15, 2024. Šušteršič is an artist in residence at Kin for the month of July, and the event has been organized in collaboration with the Jukkasjärvi Cultural Heritage Association.
